What is Sleep?

Sleep is technically a periodic, natural, reversible & near total loss of consciousness.

Why do we do that?

For recuperation, allowing our neurons & other cells to rest & repair themselves. Sleep also support growth. Sleep has all kinds of benefits of our mental function like improving memory, giving our brain time to process the event of the day & boosting our creativity.

There are four different stage of sleep:

  1. REM (Rapid eye movement)
  2. NREM-1 (Non-rapid eye movement)
  3. NREM-2
  4. NREM-3

What is REM

REM(Rapid eye movement) is a recurring sleep stage which vivid dreams commonly occurs. It's the stage of slumber that eyeballs go nuts, grant vivid visual dreams. REM sleep is kinds of paradoxical where your motor cortex is jumping all over the place but your brain stem is blocking those messages, leaving your muscles so relaxed that you're basically paralyzed but except for your eyes.
