First thing to prepare for writing at Steem

I think first thing should be to read through the steem white paper, or else I can’t understand what s the meaning of “rewards: default (50%/50%)” note displayed at right bottom position of writing page, I think that s an important setting which didn’t explained directly to the first time writer.
