she save 44 persons from apartment fire
In 1971 a stray kitten walked into an apartment in Vallejo, California, & claimed its family for her own. Fortunately for them and everyone who lived nearby they were amenable to the idea because on the night of April 13, 1976, that same cat would wake up her humans and then escape into the hall and mew and howl until she had woken up the entire building. Everyone began wondering "what was wrong with this damn cat"?but then they smelled the smoke. The building was on fire. All 44 residents escaped with their lives thanks to Samantha. Her efforts were rewarded with a plaque from the Vallejo City Council and a medal for heroism from the American Humane Society. Oh, and a letter of congratulations from Morris the Cat, the 9 Lives cat food advertising cat, who actually was already dead but whatever, it still nice that someone at a big company thought to send it even if it was a fraud. samantha grave in Desert Hot Springs.
