The noncommissioned officers identified as Jesús Mosquera and Sebastián Gamboa, were hanging from a flag tied to a helicopter. During the flight the rope that held them broke and the two subjects fell into a vacuum.
Authorities noted that the aircraft was already planning to land when the fatal incident occurred. The action has not been clarified, so an investigation was ordered to clarify the facts.
"The Colombian Air Force deeply regrets the loss of two brave men (...) who died in an accident that occurred on the head of the runway at the Olaya Herrera airport in the city of Medellin," the institution said in a statement.
The terrible incident occurred during a military parade at the close of the Flower Fair in Medellin, Colombia. In the video it is observed how the two dead soldiers hang on one end of the rope, while the flag of the coffee country flies, until in a moment the emptiness falls.
The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, spoke on Twitter: We regret the death of Deputy Technician Jesús Mosquera and Fourth Technician Sebastián Gamboa during an air show at the Flower Fair. All our solidarity with their families. I have instructed the Ministry of Defense to determine the causes of this accident promptly.
