Back again 3d fans, this time with a nifty laser scanner, designed by the same design studio team behind the lighting for Mercedes and Audi.

Housed in rugged aluminum, the Leica BLK360 Laser Scanner is a hardware and software package with an app on the iPad Pro. The scanner is about the size of a coffee mug.

Here are some of the best features:

One touch to take 360-degree imagery with great accuracy

Just set this baby down, push the button and let it take 360-degree imagery with great accuracy. With three 5 MP cameras, the scanner starts slicing images as it rotates and then stitches the images together. The first step takes only about 30 seconds.

If you're wondering how the coordinates are calculated:

A laser scanner calculates 3D XYZ coordinates using 3 measurements - a horizontal angle, a vertical angle and a slope distance from the scanner center to the measured point. This is refered to as a "polar" measurement. Add a bit of trigonometry and you quickly come to XYZ or Cartesian coordinates.

Creates a 3D Point Cloud

A 3D Point cloud contains points which have additional information assigned to each point such as reflection and color. Measure and register your reality capture data right away.

Handy iPad app is a controller and realtime visualization

The BLK360 scanner is completely controlled by the app. The app also visualizes the imagery and point cloud immediately, so you don't have to wait to get back to the office to discover that dreaded shadow or black spot.
