#STEEMGIGS: (TIL(Today I Learned)) — Today, I Learn About Camera Movements In Cinematography

Last class was fantastic as we take on the next training. Without knowledge of camera movement and how they affect overall filming experience, a cinematographer will achieve nothing.

If you recall, yesterday, I shared information about different types of camera shuts with you. I you had missed it, kindly click here to catch up.

Types of Camera Movements in Cinematography

Source

Panning: This is when camera is moved side ways in horizontal direction.

Tilting: It is the opposite of panning i.e. vertical movement of camera lens. It gives more detailed description of the subject height.

Zooming: When camera is moved closer to the subject or faraway from it. Now, with advent of technology, you can zoom without changing your position. However, even with this, some situation will warrant physical movement of the cinematographer.

Pedestal: it is the movement of the cinematographer relative to the movement of the subject. For instance, when spider man moves to the top of a building, and the camera follows him, such movement of camera is call pedestal. Don't forget it!

The instructor taught me other types of shots.

POV (Point of View): when the camera become the eyes of the cinematographer. Example is view shots in car racing game.

ROT (Rule of Third): It states that things become better if a subject is put in third view of the frame. This is often used while shooting interviews.

You will divide your frame into 9 grids, only 1/3 of it should be used at a time.

I will put all these into practice and upload the video tomorrow. You can do your research and let know me what you think of this new adventure.

See you tomorrow❤
