MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN
When life poses challenging situations our way, we atimes forget to BELIEVE in the supernatural powers of the Almigthy God. Before going further let's see the definition of Believe to aid us more and checkmate us to know if we are still on track.
According to Oxford English Dictionary
BELIEVE means to accept that something exists & is true or that someone is telling the truth. It also means having conviction in the existence of something or to have a religious faith.
From the dictionary meaning of Believe, one can rightly say that having a conviction of something or someone will help us understand that thing or person more better.
MARTHA THE HOSPITABLE ONE
Martha, a minister of God, a sister to Mary and Lazarus from Bethany is a woman of outstanding characters. She is hospitable, stouthearted, courageous, industrious and she BELIEVES. Hospitality is a virtue that she can go extra miles to display in her christain life. That is why when Jesus Christ who was a friend of the family visited their home in bethany, martha and her siblings welcomed him with a kiss, removed his sandals, washed his feet and greased his hair with refreshing oil (luke7:44-47) Christ appreciates this virtue in christains when it's done with pure and loving motives. When she was distracted by attending to lot's of things just to make Jesus Christ visit worthwhile, Jesus corrected her on being anxious over many things, she never nursed a grudge against Christ but accepted the counsel.
LOSS OF HER BELOVED BROTHER (LAZARUS)
When lazarus took ill, Martha took care of him, doing all within her power to soothe his pain and comfort him. Days after days his sickness persisted making martha anxious. When it looks as if lazarus sickness was beyond them, she and her sister Mary sent a message to Jesus saying
Lord see the one for whom you have affection is sick (John11:3).
Knowing fully well how Jesus loved and was fond of Lazarus, they believed that he would do whatever he could to help him but Jesus didn't show up on time because he was in another city preaching the goodnews and Lazarus died.
Together with her sister mary, they buried and mourned lazarus. Still no sign of Jesus, after 4days of lazarus death, Martha heared that Jesus was nearing the town, even in her mourning state rushed to meet him. (John11:18-20). When she saw Jesus, she lamented and said
Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died and yet at present i know that as many things as you ask God for, God will give you. Immediately Jesus told her "your brother will rise" (John 11:21-23) this really strenghtened her faith and encouraged her.
Thinking that Jesus was referring to the future resurrection replied i know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day (John11:24).
What a remarkable faith, Jesus then said I am the resurrection and the life.
And asked her "DO YOU BELIEVE" and she said I have believed that you are the Christ,the son of God, the one coming into the world. As she rushed to tell her sister, thereafter saw that Jesus was deeply move for he gave way to tears.
LAZARUS COMES BACK TO LIFE
Jesus ordered the stones be rolled away from lazarus tomb,but martha told him that it's 4days and his body would smell by now but Jesus reminded her"
did i not tell you that if you would Believe , you would see the glory of God? She did believe and she saw God's glory rigth there because God empowered Jesus christ to bring lazarus back to life. For he called" Lazarus come on out, he rose and still on bandages moved to the door of the cave and was loosened. Embraced by his siblings and this left the people amazed (John11:40-44)
MORAL LESSON
No matter the challenging situations that might come our way, let's always be Convinced that GOD is bigger than our worries ( BELIEVE)
God appreciates it and feels gladened at heart when we rely on him to settle matters for us.
whenever we are counselled instead of nursing grudge in our heart, we should accept it and make adjustments where need be.
