Peace with God and Division with man or Division with God and peace with Man, which do you pick?

TEXT:
Luke 12:35-59

“Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.” (Luke 12:51)

Reading this scripture from the lame man point of view, Jesus’ words are clearly uncomfortable. Everyone should want peace, we all should want happiness and harmony. In this scripture, Jesus is telling us that if we think we are in for some kind of nice, easy, get-along-with-everybody mission to unite people, we’ve got another think coming.

Coming into contact with Jesus requires a decision of some sort. Amazingly, not everybody will make the decision to follow Him, and therein lays the conflict. So, we must ask ourselves, “Are we willing to cut ties with those who don’t believe Jesus is who He says He is?” By “cut ties”, it don’t mean never speak to them again. However, we must be willing to live life differently even when it causes conflict. We must be willing to give up the approval of other people. (And that sometimes includes friends, and even family members.)

In the end, it comes down to this. We can choose peace with our fellow man and be divided from God our heavenly father; or we can choose to have a little conflict here on earth and live eternally in God’s peace.

Now that I think about it, it really doesn’t seem like much of a decision. What about you? What will you choose?
