James 1:22-25 : But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

Obedience is a very important aspect of christianity, infact it's what christianity is all about. We can define Obedience as “dutiful or submissive compliance to the commands of one in authority.” From the definition of obedience, there are three keywords: dutiful, submissive and authority. Dutiful means we are obligated to obey the commandments of God just as Jesus did His on the cross of Calvary. Submissive means we are to yield to the will of God everyday and lastly the "one in authority" refers to God. The general concept behind obedience throughout the Bible is submission to a higher authority and the Ten Commandments signifies the importance of obedience to Christians.

Deuteronomy 11:26–28 sums it up like this: "Obey and you will be blessed. Disobey and you will be cursed."

As Christians, we must avoid using the veil of obedience to sin against God because living as Christians is not always about the rule. There are two different laws in the Bible, the law of Moses and law of Jesus which is the law of love. During the time of Jesus, the Pharisees believed they deserved to go to heaven because they pursue the acts of obedience to law but all they did was become self righteous. They paraded themselves as worthy servants of God but their righteousness was a filthy rag to God because they did not believe in Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are meant to obey the law of love which is the greatest commandment of all: Love your God with all your heart and also love your neighbor just as you love yourself.
