A Duel. Defend the honour of this man! (And win Steem Basic Income and SBD).

Quite an entertaining thread on the front page of Reddit today. You can check out the original CNN article here and the reddit comments here.

A quick summary:

  • 30-year-old man named Michael still lives with his parents.

  • They ask him to move out, give him five written notices

  • He shows no signs of doing so

  • They take him to court

  • He argues that they need to give him six months notice before they can eject him from the property.

  • The judge rules for the parents, throwing our hero onto the streets

Here are a few quotes:
From Michael:

He claimed that for the past eight years he "has never been expected to contribute to household expenses, or assisted with chores and the maintenance of the premises, and claims that this is simply a component of his living agreement"

From the parents:

"So far we have seen no indication that you are preparing to leave." It adds, "Be aware that we will take any appropriate actions necessary to make sure you leave the house as demanded.”

Rules of the Competition

I feel like debate between users on Steemit is a little lacking compared websites like YouTube or Reddit. For this competition, I want to encourage people to debate with each other, not just with the original poster. Therefore in deciding the winners, the main criteria will be who debates or responds the most frequently and effectively to other users.

There are two sides:

The accused

His Strongest defender: One share in Steem Basic Income and one SBD
Second place: one SBD
(you may have to get a little creative in defending him, check the reddit thread for inspiration).

His Aggrieved parents.

If you are already a member of Steem Basic Income, I will send you one STEEM instead.

So basically you can pretend you are a lawyer in the courtroom, either argue for Michael’s position (his parents must give him six further months to move out) or the parents position (he needs to move out now).

I will announce the winners this Saturday. Happy debating!

Results

This time I didn't get re-steemed by Steem Basic Income, so this contest got lost in the depths of Steemit and no one really saw it. Lesson learned for me, next time I'll have to spend some $$ to promote it. I would like to try this kind of debate competition on Steemit again, so watch out the next one, it should be a bit more visible. Prizes this time to @conradt and @rentmoney.
