Hydrofoil surfing is taking off here on the islands. For you land lovers who have never seen or heard of this sport make sure you check out this new water sport. Take a surf board, add a large foil, get up to speed on a wave, and you start to lift above the water and fly. I say it is the cryptocurrency of surfing because the technology is well established, it is new to the market place, and it is flying. More and more water men and women are trying this new sport, and much like steem, all who try it love it. Below is Austin, trying out some moves at Paia Bay. Austin is the son of famous surfer Dave Kalama. I was able to talk to him about the sport for a short while after riding wave in the bay by himself.
After watching a all these surfers fly and then rant and rave about this new sport. I had to get my feet wet. I was familiar with surf, bodyboarding most of my life, but this is something new. On my path, I got myself a board and after about 3 months I got my foil. My board came from no other the Dave Kalama. I was able to make a video with some of the clips Cristina made - to make sure I could share his insights on this new sport.
Now that I have all that I need to fly, the hard part is flying. Like steem, it is not just having the currency it is how you use it. We will be in the water next week doing some practice behind a jet-ski to get balance and help the learning curve. I will be sure to share the experience as we ride the steemit foil here on line.
