Steem prices took us by surprise in January 1 of 2018, when they started to rise from their stable base of $2 to now $6. There had being a lot of post and comments asking "what is the right price for Steem?" and one week since the start of the year the answer remains the same, the correct price of Steem is the one that the market decides for it.
I from my part, I think Steem prices will raise to $100 by the end of the end year if Steemit keeps growing in a fast rate, and some of the problems are addressed. Not to forget that SMT are still underway, and Steemit has a lot problems to be resolve, as internal user struggles affect us all a like.
Another thing that i think we will see this year will be ETH taking the first place as the go to coin instead of bitcoin, that is because bitcoin has had a lot of problems this year, and people are migrating to a most cost effective coin for their personal use making it rise in price (funny this may end in the same problems bitcoin has of being more worth to be accumulate than being use as currency to buy stuff).
Nevertheless, this doesn't mean bitcoin will had a drastic drop in price, it only means ETH will have a higher market cap than bitcoin, and as the future of bitcoin becomes foggy, lighting networks the promise for bitcoin revival is still not out yet, and this is something that can or will reverse the current trend we are seeing of ETH wanting to take the first place, but as in anything else, another coin could also come from the back and take the lead, what ever it is, bitcoin number #1 place will be probably taken.

As i side note, I joined Steemit because I live in a country where i can't get the needed income to build a life and a future for me and my family, this may surprise you, but Steemit means a lot more for a lot of people that you may realize, and this will affect the future as more people that are in need for a way to earn an steady income join in.
