This is just a reminder to Steemians why some of us have diversified into cryptocurrency and precious metals, and other assets besides USD.
This is not meant to be any sort of comparison or analysis, just a memento of another scary currency that has declined severely.
Obviously we are looking at a time period of many decades, but we are also talking about a scale dwarfing the entire cryptocurrency market capitalization by multiple orders of magnitude.
It is why it important when considering whether to HODL to also think about if you should GODL.
All cryptocurrency investors should understand the asset class we are involved in is extremely speculative, and classify such speculation in a high risk\high reward category.
While we grit our collective teeth and bear the decline in our crypto positions, it does provide some confort to own some gold and silver. It is during the tumultuous times that we understand why.
While almost all here believe that we have exciting times ahead for Steemit and STEEM, sometimes we take for granted the there is real value in sleeping at night also.
In other words, while we wait for this:

It is easy to forgot the risk of volatility we all are accepting when accumulating crypto.... but even easier to forget the boiling frog nature of the decline in our purchasing power due to the steady decline in the dollar.
My favorite example is the “shrinkflation” we experience over time in our regular trips to the grocery store.
When they start messing with out chocolate, it’s time to get serious.
