How is The Acolyte changing Lucas' ideas?
I have many thoughts, for a while I've personally believed that the idea of balance is that the light and dark can co-exist, in a sense. But Lucas' original philosophy was apparently that the force being balanced means that the dark side is essentially eradicated, atleast temporarily
Which is weird, because that kinda contradicts another thing he himself worked on/oversaw, which was the Mortis arc from Clone Wars. Which was when, as we know, they literally demonstrated Anakin's prowess as the Chosen One by being the only other figure outside of the Father to be able to keep both the Daughter and Son in check, illustrating his capabilities to one day theoretically hone in both the light and the dark (something we see him do as a Force Ghost figure in the Ahsoka series when he presents himself as both a light and dark side figure at different points, doing so out of his own volition)
So from that perspective I can see Headland's own personal perspectives rooted in justifiable reason
My pov on it is that the dark side, by itself, is not essentially a bad thing. But the Sith Order, an extension of the dark side, is basically a plague upon the Force and Anakin bringing balance is him eradicating the Sith Order atleast temporarily
When we see the Son in Mortis he is a dark sider, but it's not until his ambition grows and develops by the 2nd episode of that arc that we see him slowly start to lean into that domination aspect, the desire to conquer and destroy and hold all the power that the Sith so commonly believe in. I think that's the true fallacy of the dark, and might be what Lucas was getting at? The dark side by itself is not bad and not a hindrance upon the force, but its something that can so very easily lead you down a darker path, to the point where we get the Sith Ideology which acts as a plague upon the force, unbalancing it.
