A French Open clash of the titans saw Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina take down Marin Cilic winning 7-6(5) 5-7 6-3 7-5.
Advancing to the semifinals, Del Potro will now seek to defeat Rafael Nadal, a 10-times champion.
In the first round match, Del Potro dropped the opening set before going on to win the next 12. However, Cilic possesses a beast of a serve and used it very well to his advantage.
The first set tiebreak saw them locked in at 5-5 on the sunny Court Suzanne Lenglen which had to be halted due to the rain on Wednesday.
The return to the court the next day saw Del Potro rack up an eighth successive win against Cilic as the former first flirted with danger before returning back to his winning ways.
For Rafa Nadal, a loss in his first set at the French Open almost set him back but after a rain delayed match, the 10 times champion finally marched on ahead into the semifinals after emerging victorious against Diego Schwartzman with a 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory.
