Arsenal edge closer to getting Sommer deal done

Arsenal have shown interest in Swiss keeper Yann Sommer over a transfer this summer. The Gunners are told to be in 'advanced talks' with Borussia Monchedgladbach for the transfer of the keeper.

Sommer had a very good World Cup which caught the eye of very big clubs including Arsenal. The 29 year old has over 130 appearances for Monchedgladbach and has also been the Swiss first choice for a long time now. He was also a part of the UEFA European under 21 Team of the tournament back in 2011.

Arsenal have already signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen this season. But with David Ospina's departure to Besiktas imminent and amidst Chelsea's rising interest in Petr Cech, Arsenal want to play a safe game and get Sommer. Getting Sommer would also create a healthy competition between Leno and him for the first team place and make them fight hard for the spot.

It looks like Arsenal might just be done for this summer. With Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Lichtsteiner and Lucas Torreira, Arsenal have strengthened significantly for Unai Emery's first season. Sommer could be possibly Arsenal's last signing of the summer as the Gunners look forward to their first game of the season against Manchester City.
