Basketball is a popular sport all around the world invented in America by a man named Dr. James Naismith. Basketall is a 5 on 5 team sport where both teams attempt to score as many goals in hoops on a rectangular court. Naismith invented the game in 1891 starting off with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Over the years, many things have changed in the game of basketball. For example, there were only 13 rules when Naismith originally made the game. Now there are 12 sections with dozens of subsections branching off them.
