The Mets Finally Threw In The Towel

Reality finally set in for the Metsies and Flushing is facing up to what the score is.

After a week of waffling, the General Manager finally admitted things did not go as planned and it is time to start moving some players. The focus is now upon 2020 with 2019 basically in the books.

Sure there are 70 games to do and the Mets are still within striking distance of the Wild Card. The problem is that turning around a baseball team that stunk through the first 90 games tends not to happen. We see a trend and it continues.

For this reason it only makes sense for the Mets to get what they can from some of their players. There are a few expiring contracts that could net them lottery tickets in the form of prospects. Zack Wheeler is the one who will most likely garner the greatest return.

This decision is the right one. Whether Brodie can parlay that into useful assets remains to be seen. Thus far, his track record is not great, having many more failures than successes.

To support the decision, the Mets opened up the second half of the season with a dreadful loss to the lowly Miami Marlins.

On the calendar, 2020 is still more than 5 months away. For the New York Mets, it is here right now.
