Squat

The squat or squat (depending on the degree of flexion of knees and hips, being greater in the squat) is one of the basic exercises of strength training. It works directly on the thigh muscles, hip muscles and buttocks, and strengthens the bones, ligaments and tendons of the legs and hips. Long considered a vital exercise to develop strength and volume in the muscles of the legs and buttocks has been the subject of considerable controversy in recent years, due to the accusation by some trainers that squats increase the Probability of suffering lumbar and knee injuries.1 Consequently, many affected authors who practice modified forms of the squat. Other authors, however, dispute the risk statements and defend the use of the traditional way of practicing the session, 2 using a good technique.

It is one of the three movements that make up the powerlifting. It is an excellent exercise for the development of the legs, considered by some authors as the main.3
