The rise of Jesse Lingard..

With the recent red hot form of Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard, we have a look back over his career so far and the man himself.

Born in Warrington in 1992, Jesse grew up as a diehard Manchester United fan and was lucky enough to join the united academy at the tender age of 7. He has also played with the English youth sides from u-17s all the way to the first team.

Whilst playing in the youth sides Jesse had the chance to learn from some of the best. Ferguson's side was dominating English football at the time with some of the worlds best playing in the side. You might recognise this Portugese winger giving Jesse some tips:

He went on to lift the FA youth cup in 2010-2011 alongside names like Ravel Morrison and a certain Paul Pogba. He then signed his first professional contract with United in 2011.

For the next four seasons, Lingard had 4 loan spells with Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton and finally Derby before returning to Old Trafford for good. (Jesse made his debut for Birmingham against Sheffield Wednesday. Birmingham won 4-1 with Jesse scoring all 4!) The following season would be his chance to impress under dutchman Louis Van Gaal. Despite not exploding onto the scene he still managed to chip in with 6 goals.

His real breakthrough season has come this year, already matching his previous 2 season's returns combined. Lingard has scored 11 goals in all competitions with 5 assists to add to that.

The latest came last night in the FA cup against Derby and what a goal it was. Lukaku with his back to goal laid it off to Lingard who took once touch before rifling a half volley into the top right hand corner, leaving Carson no chance. If you missed the goal, you can watch it here:

How do you think Lingard will fare in the coming seasons? Especially with United being linked to big money moves for wingers who could very well take his place. I feel Lingard deserves his chance and it is great to see faith being placed in local players who have a real love for their club.
