How to Learn and Speak German Fast: The 4 Secret Steps!

How to Learn and Speak German Fast: The 4 Secret Steps!

In anything or any language we want to learn and improve ourselves our emotions are playing a major role. For example, if I love Japanese anime and I really want to understand the original Japanese version I will have an easier access to start taking Japanese courses here in italki for example. So liking and feeling happy while you are learning something is a main factor for learning and making improvements faster.

The question for someone who wants to learn German or improve his skills in this language may be: How can I learn German better but don’t feel overwhelmed with the grammar?

My answer is: trough German music! Yes you read it right: music. Something what we really enjoy, don’t we? So here are the 4 secret-steps for you how to learn and speak German faster!

Nummer 1: What type of music do you like? Oldies? Hip&Hop?

Nummer 2: ****Where can I get German music?****

Nummer 3: What to do with the music in detail?

Nummer 4: When I will see the results?

I am giving you my example. So you can follow it based on your wish.

Nummer 1: What type of music do I like?

For example I do love Caterine Valentes “Spiel noch einmal für mich Habanero”, which you can listen here. If you don’t know yet just follow the second step: Nummer 2!

Nummer 2: Where can I get German music?

If you do already know the name of an German artist you like, you can directly search on youtube. What do you do if you don’t have any idea? I would advise you to use Spotify, its free and you can search for music “Made in Germany” and get some inspiration for what you feel to like it. After you found some artists and music you heart feels attracted to what to do with it?

Nummer 3: What to do with the music in detail?

To point it out: It’s not about listening to any German music! It’s about listening to a specific German music by a specific German musician you feel happy and your heart says: Yes this I really do like! If you don’t feel a positive connection, you are not being able to benefit from it effectively!

After you found your beloved German musician and the German song go as follows:

Feed your ears!

Just make it a habit to listen to this one music on a daily basis until your ears, heart and mind become used to it. You don’t need to understand anything: Just enjoy listening to your first German music

Feed your heart!

After one or two weeks, when you feel ready to go further, start trying to sing the song while you are listening to it.

The lycrics you get by typing in youtube : “musician name” + „song title” + “lyrics”. For example: Adel Tawil Lieder lyrics

Feed your brain!

After your ears become used to German music and you are connected tot the song emotionally, now you are going to feed your brain by trying to translate the lyrics via an German dictionary into your language or online like dict.cc

The point here is: if you really like the song itself emotionally you will not find it hard to translate the German vocabulary. You may intuitively seek for the translation.

After you translated the lyrics, you focus on one sentence each and keep the meaning of in mind while you are singing it. Now your mind is going to connect the meaning of the words from your language with the words in the German song easily. Why? Because you loved listening to this German music without understanding it 100%, but your heart „understood“ or liked it in his way.

After understanding the German lyrics, you will feel and see improvements in your German pronunciation, syntax and grammar and all with enjoyment if you found the suitable German music only for you.

Nummer 4: When I will see the results?

I believe if you found a German musician/music which you really feel connected to with your heart then you will see all this mentioned improvements within 4 weeks. This means:

if you are already learning German it will help you to become better in your learning process

if you should be a total beginner you should be ready to start the learning process by entering the gate for finding a German tutor or joining to a German class near to you, because “the fire” in your heart is being set and you have a positive connection with the German language

I wish you good luck on your journey for learning German or anything and of course you can apply this method for other languages! You see that in the centre of your learning process lays in your heart: You are learning better because you like it! First learning with your heart after then with your mind and not the opposite way like in our old school days.

Now you may like to listen to Adel Tawils “Lieder” ;)

I really do believe that you can improve your German skills, like your pronunciation, grammar and conversation by using this method .

What are your experiences in learning any language with music?
Your,
Harun German
