Hello friends, today I am going to talk to you about a small town that I had the pleasure of visiting in the Sierra de Granada, a place with a lot of charm, it is Güejar-Sierra, it is located on the northwest face of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, where the river Genil runs, giving it a marked tourist-rural character.
Hola amigos, hoy os voy hablar de un pueblecito que tuve el placer de visitar de la sierra de Granada, un lugar con mucho encanto, se trata de Güejar-Sierra, se encuentra en la cara noroeste del Parque Natural de Sierra Nevada, por donde transcurre el río Genil, dándole un marcado carácter turístico-rural.
This municipality is the starting point for many high mountain trails that climb the Sierra Nevada, such as the Vereda de la Estrella. Güéjar Sierra, which is located 25 kilometers from the ski slopes of Sierra Nevada, and in it you can practice horseback riding, hiking or cycling routes.
Este municipio es el punto de partida de muchos senderos de alta montaña que suben a Sierra Nevada, como la Vereda de la Estrella. Güéjar Sierra que se encuentra a 25 kilómetros de las pistas de esquí de Sierra Nevada, y en él se pueden practicar tanto paseos a caballo como senderismo o rutas en bicicleta.
The urban nucleus preserves in some of its neighborhoods the typical mountain architecture. And its environment leaves the visitor with places and corners of great ecological beauty, chestnut forests and old quarries of serpentine or green jasper, as well as the old tram route that went up to Sierra Nevada, full of tunnels and bridges.
El núcleo urbano conserva en algunos de sus barrios la típica arquitectura serrana. Y su entorno deja al visitante parajes y rincones de gran belleza ecológica, bosques de castaños y antiguas canteras de serpentina o jaspe verde, así como el antiguo trayecto del tranvía que subía a Sierra Nevada, plagado de túneles y puentes.
It has a gastronomy based on local products, highlighting its choto al ajillo with red potatoes cooked poorly, the spicy porridge, potatoes crumbs and pork roasts, with which the locals celebrate the slaughter festival in the style of Güejareño.
Tiene una gastronomía basada en productos locales destacando su choto al ajillo con patatas rojas guisadas a lo pobre, las gachas picantes, papas migas y asaduras de cerdo, con las que los lugareños celebran la fiesta de la matanza al estilo güejareño.
As you have seen, in this small town there is a bit of everything, places with strong Arab influences and others with an important legacy from the Christian era.
Como habeis podido comprobar, en este pequeño pueblo hay un poco de todo, lugares con fuertes influencias árabes y otros con un importante legado de la época cristiana.
