Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of the masterpieces of the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer created between 1665 and 1667. It is supposed to be the representation of an anonymous character or an unidentifiable portrait. It also enters into “Tenebrism”, which is based on the contrast between lights and shadows.

This painting always caught my attention. Why is it so well known? Who is the girl? Even when I started to investigate, I kept feeling that I was missing information, but now that I think about it... What work or artist do we completely know? We're not even sure how Van Gogh died.

Aún cuando me puse a investigar seguía sintiendo que me faltaba información, pero ahora que lo pienso... ¿Qué obra o artista conocemos completamente? Ni siquiera estamos seguros de como fue que murió Van Gogh
In part, this is exactly what draws the attention of art, the interpretation given by each person, each viewer, not being 100% sure of something gives us the opportunity to take an idea as a basis and develop it; and, even when the creator of a work has a clear idea of what he seeks to convey and shares it with others, people continue to see the work in a different way, since each person relates what they see, feel or hear with their own experiences.
En parte es justo esto lo que llama la atención del arte, la interpretación que da cada persona, cada espectador, el no estar 100% seguros de algo nos da la oportunidad de tomar una idea como base y desarrollarla; y, aun cuando el creador de una obra tiene una idea clara de lo que busca transmitir y lo comparte con los demás, las personas siguen viendo la obra de una forma distinta, ya que cada quien relaciona lo que ve, siente o escucha con sus propias vivencias.

I drew her as a young woman with a sweet look, someone who could be inviting you to walk with her, or who just matched her gaze with yours and greets you with a smile.
