This is a song about a kid not wanting to eat his vegetables, but being held up at the table until he finishes. I definitely relate to this song, as it was a pretty common scene at my house growing up. I always had to finish them, so I would usually swallow them whole. The best was if we had mashed potatoes too, because then I could surround the beans or peas or whatever with potatoes and not have to taste them at all.
There are some curses in this song, so while it's a song about kids, it's not a song for kids.
