Tom Carvel was famous for selling ice cream out of his truck in 1929. On the Memorial day weekend in 1934 his truck broke down with a flat tire forcing him to sell the melting ice cream to vacationers.
Two years later he opened his first soft serve ice cream shop at the same site where his truck broke down making him the inventor and promoter of the first soft serve ice cream.
