Jacks Fork Smallmouth

One of my favorite ways to spend my leisure time is floating the Jacks Fork River. This beautiful river flows just north of my hometown, Mountain View, MO. The Jacks Fork is named after John Jacks, a Shawnee Indian who settled in the region around 1830.

The stretch of the river that my friends and family frequent is known as the Jacks Fork Canyon. The river features vast and majestic dolomite bluffs, swift rapid, deep pools, natural springs, sloping gravel bars, among many fallen trees and Eddies for smallmouth monsters to bed.

This portion of the Jacks Fork River is a protected Special Smallmouth Management Area. The daily limit is one fish with a minimum length limit of 18". However, we are catch and release fishermen. We love to free the fighter!
