So I had one of those pivotal stacking moments the other day: the kind I will look back upon and think before/after. I had already snaffued up a couple of rando intnl. Trade units when I decided to check out that off the beaten track coin & stamp shop. And just like that, there it was! Perhaps serendipitously I was rolling with a bunch of cash after just completing a crypto deal — it still amazes me how shapeshifting money is the true alchemy. Anyway, the single most coveted and desired coin I could’ve thought of was right there — ripe for the plucking!
A real dandy of a gold piece, and busy with flying ghosts of cowboys, settlers and early 20th century foxes!
I was instantly smitten! The coin comes in at a little over 33 grams, it is 90/10 gold/copper and has 0.9675 oz of Au. I bought it for 0.9675% of the price of a 1oz Gold Maple — so like, zero premium over Maple Price for this absolute stunner! Admittedly this one is not a very fine specimen, but who cares!!? It’s made of gold and it’s a $20, 1923 St. Gauden’s double eagle American gold coin.

This was some serious shit for me! I have been trying to just stick to the basics —> max oz stackable, but alas, Precious and her crew have the claws in pretty deep! And though I may agree that cryptos are likely to outpace precious metals in the short, mid and long term, myself — nor anyone — can truly predict the future. And with that being said, I will propose that 100 year old gold coins are not going to become anymore common going forward. And besides, this is a way that I can get some jollies spending some money — and still have my fucking money!
Of course that is why all of us are in this game, but I felt the need to celebrate just one more time! Reeeva-La-Derchi friends!!!
Grab up them precious metals, they are being held back by reasons beyond belief, but the underlying reality is that finished, refined elemental precious is something you gonna’ wanna’ have!
