# Short Stories: A Rainbow Runner

It was a sunny day, sharp sun rays prickling the eyes of a young boy, Ali, who is in his early teenage with sparkling dreams in his eyes, he gets up and tries to sleep again as the windy night kept him awake all night long with spooky sounds coming from around his house, an open box of carton with no doors or windows which he has built all by himself by collecting cartons from the marts and cutting and sticking them in a way that he could save himself from the sharp sun rays but the windy nights keeps him awake so that he could save his home from flowing away. The sun is high and in the sky and now its time to go to work. What could a teenage boy work? wondered his mother, a decent lady who lost her husband in an accident and has no one other than her son. Ali, is also very concerned about his mother and does not want her to go out and work while he could study. They were a normal family where Ali goes to school and his father goes to work, where he was an Accountant, but one afternoon when Ali's father was coming home from work, some random guy comes forward and started yelling at his Father, give me your wallet and stuff. The shouting made Ali come from his home when he saw his father struggling to get his wallet back and the guy shoots him in the struggle. Ali was stunned, he could not hear anything or see anything, all he could manage was to run towards hi father and save him but it was useless. His father lost his life in an instance. Soon after his father's death, everything came to the ground, they had no money to pay the rent or school fees and were abandoned by all family members.
This story is about Ali that how he managed to get through the little storms of life from the very simple like going to bed and what is the secret ingredient that made him chase his dreams!
i will really appreciate if you all share what you guys think the secret ingredient was in the comment section.

As he gets ready to go to look for work, his mother prepares breakfast for him, a piece of bread with a glass of water. He respectably asks:

Ali: mother, what are you having for breakfast?
mother: I'm sleepy, i will eat at dawn.

Ali understood that there is nothing more to eat and she wants Ali to eat this piece of bread.

Ali: we will eat together, mother

saying that he splits the bread into two equal pieces and water into two equal glasses. His mother cried silently but brought a smile on her face so that Ali can go to work easily.

Ali got dressed, took a deep breath and went out. His mother watched him go while tears fall from her cheeks she looked up and asks God to protect him from all evil eyes and that he could return safely.

Ali's first day, on a sunny day he walks and walks, from one shop to another asking anybody to give him a job or any work but it seemed that everyone was content and nobody needed anything especially from a teenage boy. The sun starts to set and Ali started to worry about what will he and his mother eat and was concerned what his mother ate in the daytime. Many days have passed, Ali has managed no more than a piece of bread which he had to ask his fellow friends so that they can get through the night. Ali's friends were very empathetic and they used to help Ali whenever possible but Ali did not like asking them for food or money as he was a guy with a huge self-respect. One day Ali walked in slowly with disappointment on his face but he was stunned to see that his mother was sitting calmly in a corner making bread and lentil soup. Happiness rushed through his face and he asked his mother with excitement and joy, where did you get the money mother? Your father always wanted you to become a great leader and i will do anything to fulfill his dream, mother replied.
Ali feeling loved and surprised, but how did you do it, mother?
Your mother is a literate person Ali, mother replied. I went to the nearby school and they were very impressed by your mother and they decided to hire me as a substitute teacher but the pay is not that much, we can only eat in that pay but you have to study. The school is offering you to continue your studies free of cost as i am rendering my services in their school. Mother said.
Ali was filled with joy and happiness after many days that he forgot how happiness felt like but the struggle starts here when he has to study as well as help his mother in the finances and manage to get a roof on their heads.

All the dreams come rushing back to his eyes, his eyes filled with joy and happiness to be able to follow his goals.
Next day, Ali went to school with joy and studied with his heart out and returned home seeing his mother exhausted from all the work. He made tea, and made her to rest while he went out again to work. His dreams and goals made him confident, he was not a pity guy looking for food anymore rather he was the confident man chasing his dreams with a speed of light. People admired his strength and offered him a decent job in a restaurant where was given lunch for free and a pay that made him pay the rent of a small cottage.

Days pass... and pass...

Ali never lost hope and believed himself and his mother never stopped supporting.

Ali: Mother! today's the day... where are you mother come quick! Ali shouted as joy and enlightenment filled his big round eyes.
Mother: i'm coming sweetheart, mother filled with content and relief.

Today, Ali will receive a gold medal from the President on his superb work done on the water filtration project for the rural areas where Ali was able to set up a plant where everyone in his area will be able to get pure water for free. He not only made his fathers dream come true but also made his people's misery fade away forever. Ali never thought low of himself, he always wanted big not only for himself but for the people that lived with him and helped him through.

What a boy you have! said the president to Ali's mother. She looked up with tears of happiness in her eyes and thank God for everything He did and how He took care of them from the very first day.
