The Art of Shitposting

IMG_6653.JPG

I think sometimes we take Steemit a bit too seriously, feeling like you always have to post some quality art or information, a pressure that no other social media site has. That is the benefit of Steemit, but also partly it’s downfall. People are judged if they post what ever nonsense, but then again, we are not bombarded by everyones food and cat pictures all day every day.

It’s interesting that using Steemit is advertised as “post what you would post on Instagram, or facebook and make money” but we, the active users, have kind of decided that something like that isn’t cutting it. I for one can attest to not really caring about short posts and ugly phone pictures, most of the time. But I think it’s very interesting when someone who is serious about what they post and normally uses a lot of time and effort to make a good post, makes a shitpost. It shows another side of the person and their daily life, giving more depth to the character.

I’ve talked about this subject with @abh12345 a lot, because we are both active Steemians and doing shitposts isn’t our forte, but it should be because sometimes we need a break from the serious(ly good) posts . When you hold yourself to high standards, it’s really hard to make a shitpost. Someone will say that just take a pic and post that, but it’s so hard when your brain is yelling that it’s not good enough!

In my opinion, there is an art to shitposting, and it’s not easy. You either post a picture that is okay and only write a few sentences, or post a shitty picture and write some nonsense. You will have to disguise the shitpost into a post that is not so shitty. What determines it as a shitpost in my opinion, is in relation to what you normally post, and what the majority of your readers thinks is good enough or interesting. Shitpost will also have to be fast, if you use 30 minutes crafting it, it isn’t a shitpost anymore.

For me, if I do a free write, along with a random phone picture, that is a shitpost. It’s also a shitpost if I have a semi decent picture but very little text to go with it, usually just to tell where and when the picture is taken.

Do you have any tips for making a proper good shitpost?

Ps. This post was supposed to be a shitpost, but when I started to get more into it, I think it turned into a real post. Damn it, I failed again.
