The blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), also known as blue-and-yellow macaw, yellow parrot, or yellow-blue parrot, is a species of psittaciform bird of the parrot family of South America. Its distribution area extends from Panama to northern Paraguay5 through the entire Amazon basin. In captivity they reproduce easily; in freedom they live in groups of 25-30 individuals. This parrot is the unmistakable representative of the macaws, parrots with powerful beaks and very long tails.
