Massive security flaws in Intel and other chips - Google discovers

Security researchers at Google have discovered serious security flaws in Intel built processor chip and other chipmakers. Google’s Project Zero team said that the flaw could allow hackers to access passwords and other sensitive data from a system’s memory, that could compromise individual computers or the entire server.

Intel and ARM insisted that the issue was not a design flaw per se. User should download a patch and update their operating system to fix it.

The researchers said Apple Inc and Microsoft Corp had patches ready for users for desktop computers affected by Meltdown. Microsoft declined to comment on the issue and Apple did not immediately return requests for comment.
