Bekisar Chicken The First generation hybrid From Indonesia

Ayam Bekisar

The Bekisar, or Ayam Bekisar, is the first generation hybrid offspring of the green junglefowl (Gallus varius) and domesticated red junglefowl from Java (Gallus gallus bankiva). The roosters have a glossy blackish green plumage and are highly prized for their loud clear calls and striking colouration, while the hens are usually dull and infertile. [1]

Bekisars were traditionally used by the original inhabitants of the Sunda Islands as symbolic or spiritual mascots on outrigger canoes, and consequently spread over a wide area. The original hybrids are rarely fertile (and hens are generally sterile), but backcrosses with domestic chicken are sometimes achieved and thus several landraces of Pacific chickens have some Bekisar ancestry.

While the hybrid is only of historical interest in most regions, on Java it is still being produced as a more stereotyped breed with several local varieties, known as Ayam Bekisar.

There are a lot of colors from bekisar but the basic colors have eight kinds of colors namely Black, Red, Yellow, White, Wido, Gray, Blorok (bahasa), and Jali (bahasa). Chicken Bekisar one of the symbols that became mascot from East Java Province. Because Chicken Bekisar comes from Kangean island, which is an island east of the island of Madura, including the Sumenep region.

This chicken then spread throughout the islands of Madura, Bali, Java and the Region of Lombok, Komodo, Flores. If in other areas in Indonesia we rarely encounter bekisar chicken.

  1. White Bekisar
This species is arguably the first offspring of a green forest bird stud with a broodstock mother. and the result is called white bekisar with the following characteristics:
    a. The color of the fur is white
    b. His posture is slim
    c. The cockscomb is large and also red.
    d. The color of his feet is a bit white

  2. Black Bekisar

    a. His whole body is black
    b. Feathers, feet, fingers and eyes are all black

  3. Multi color range
This species is actually the first descendant of the crosses between green forest chicken and fowl mothers fowl of any kind, can be red, yellow, gray, brown etc. its own character colorful fur color.

Bekisar has a size smaller than the size of a male chickens, but larger than the male parent. The color of the feathers is blackish-green and shiny. It has a delicate and distinctive sound: it is composed of two tones.

Because as a result of crossbreeding between two different types, thats chickens are usually barren, though not always. Because there are also chicken bekisar (male or female) which when mated with other kind of chickens it can produce offspring.

The Bekisar is the faunal symbol of East Java, a province of Indonesia. The male is used in East Java, Bali and the surrounding islands in popular vocal competitions; this practice has caused the decline of wild green junglefowl populations.
