#Science Fact: Should you WALK or RUN in rain to keep yourself dry?

Have you ever forgotten to bring an umbrella when the weather starts to rain? Because I do, and I personally don't like to bring an umbrella when its heavy. That's why I'm always wet whenever the sky rains. However, a thought came into my mind: Should I walk or run to keep myself dry? I don't know actually... But I'm interested to find out!

Theoretically...

Assume the raindrop falls vertically, as you are walking out from one falling raindrop, you'll move into another falling raindrop. Which means the rain hitting the top of you is constant, no matter how fast you're going. So if you're not moving, you'll get wet on top of your head, but if you're moving, you will also run into the raindrops from the side and get wetter.

Small Conclusion: If you stand still you'll get wet only on your top, if you're moving you'll get wetter from the side, so if you're running you'll get wetter.

BUT!

Logically, you won't be standing still in the rain ofcourse. So, standing in the rain won't help you anything. As you were running, you'll get the same amount of water from the top and the side, just like how a snowplow will plow the same amount of snow no matter how fast it is going. So your wetness depends on how much time you spent in the rain, which is why the faster you get out from the rain, the dryer you'll get.

Specifically, there's a formula:

Total wetness = (wetness per second X time spent in rain) + (wetness per meter X meters traveled).

Conclusion:

It is better to run in the rain so you'll spend lesser time with the raindrops ;).
