Like Bear Grylls said " Better drink my own piss ". Pee is very important key ingredient when you face a life and death situation, For example you stuck in the middle of Sahara or Antarctica you better drink your own piss to survive. And this also apply to human's trip to Mars. Pee is a silver key in order to survive on Mars.
Recently, Scientists of Clemson University in South Carolina have found that a kind of yeast Yarrowia lipolytica can turn human waste like pee, our breath into useful products such as vitamin supplements and polyesters, The best part is we use the vitamin supplements to support our health and polyesters polymers to be used in 3-D printer to create something else.
Recycle is a crucial part when we go on long journey, As we're speaking human waste recycling systems aboard the ISS has been converting human waste into water about everyday because bringing water from ground to space is difficult and expensive, so to speak. But trip to Mars might use even more material so recycling have become a major key to the journey to Mars.
