Welcome to Another Review
Mass Effect Andromeda is an action role-playing game developed by Bioware. The game is available for the Xbox One, PS4, and Microsoft Windows. The game is a new story set in the andromeda system where your character assumes the role of pathfinder after his or her twin fails to wake from cryosleep which basically means it's your responsibility to lead a human colonization project in this strange new region of space.
The game has a single-player campaign and also an online multiplayer mode. The action starts 634 years after your expedition launches. You wake from cryosleep to find your prospective home planet being surrounded by the scourge( some weird force making the planet unstable). In the prologue, you'll encounter the quiet who is the new alien race and the main enemy you'll face on your adventure.
As I said earlier you play as a rider and you can be male or female depending on your preference. Your character has three areas of expertise combat, biotics, and tech. You're equipped with a scanner to id alien technology and this game adds a jet pack to your arsenal which makes getting around the levels much more enjoyable.
The combat is fantastic and for anyone who played the previous games, the cover dodges special powers gameplay will be instantly familiar. You can equip various weapons that can be found, looted, or researched as well as body armor, and customizing your own unique color scheme. You get to choose your three-person squad too and these characters can also be leveled up as you progress. So, this game it's more about exploration than combat I'd say discovering the unknown, using vehicles to traverse alien planets, and researching new tech.
There's a lot of chit chat so you can really get to know your crew but your main task is to find a viable world to colonize and make those planets habitable through whatever means necessary. You can travel through space via the galaxy map and scan worlds for resources or mining possibilities. The supporting cast of crew members are varied and generally quite interesting. Although, a couple of them are annoying as hell, and the mass effect romance feature returns which means if you flatter someone enough you'll end up having a romantic cutscene, and apparently you can romance everyone in the crew simultaneously. So, if that's your thing, good luck to you.
Finally, on the gameplay, there is a standalone multiplayer mode which really surprised me it's so much fun and primarily a wave-based mode where you and other players fight off enemy upon the enemy. The jetpack feature really makes that multiplayer mode so much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise it's just really awesome fun totally didn't expect it but it's a great addition to a very good campaign and then a really fun multiplayer mode.
In terms of graphics, the environments and the game worlds look amazing. Exploring these worlds, it just looks spectacular, however, the facial animations, not so much most of the faces come across as quite wooden and the lip-syncing is really poor it's not as bad as it was on the initial release but it's still pretty bad. In terms of sound, the music is amazing and it really adds that sci-fi theme the sound effects during combat and general gameplay is perfect and the voice acting, it's okay. It's only a couple of characters really that aren't that great most of them do the job fine I wouldn't say they have them as much resonance as the characters from the previous games they're still solid.
The game worlds look delightful the combat is fast and well optimized the customization options add some depth to the experience. The multiplayer mode is fantastic and adds replay value and the dialogue choices give the player a sense of freedom of expression While the lip-syncing although not as bad as it was originally is still horrific. It can be a little bit laborious at times and the voice acting goes from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Final Thoughts
The game is a good sci-fi adventure game with excellent combat, a solid story, and a lot more freedom than the previous Mass Effect games. Yes! it's not up to the high standard of Mass Effect 2 or 3 in terms of the narrative but it's still a worthy addition to the franchise and for sci-fi enthusiasts or fans of Mass Effect I would definitely recommend it. The campaign although slow in the beginning picks up the pace and it's well worth playing through the open-world sections give you time to breathe and have a break from the huge amounts of dialogue and the insanely enjoyable multiplayer mode was a genuine surprise and one I think a lot of people will really enjoy. So, if you're open-minded to a new story set in the Mass Effect universe Andromeda is absolutely worth playing.
