The Commit, Episode 31 | Cover letter hacks

In this youtube, it was discussed that three things should be written in the cover letter.

1. Why you want to work for us, the company?

  • Did you check out our cite?
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • It there any specific technology?
  • Have you learned about our people?

An important key word is that:

Spend the time to individualize your cover letter.

2. What motivates you, the person?

  • What is it that makes you tick?
  • Is it like, you want to learn?
  • You want to have an impact?
  • You want to learn about a specific technology?
  • You want to be surrounded by great people?

3. Tell us something about you that isn't on your resume and that is still important about you

For example,

  • That could be that you work well with others
  • That could be that you're the one that stayed late and taught everybody in your class when they were having trouble
  • You're obsessed with a certain technology

It could be long, but keep it short, keep it straightforward

After these tips, two awesome examples cover letters are introduced in the youtube.
