Being A Useful Vessel To God

VESSELS UNTO HIM

2 Timothy 2: 20-21

20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

In a typical home in the Ghanaian culture, the nicest vessels are kept in a secure place. They are not for regular use. They are brought out and cleaned for use only when a special person visits the house. Although globalization and a bit of westernization is eroding this practice it is still happening in several homes. If those vessels - plates or cups and even the table spreads had the mouth to talk, they would have expressed joy and pride of being useful to the owner in special occasions.

With this cultural practice we can relate to what Paul is telling Timothy in this passage. There are all kinds of vessels but their usefulness is not the same. He goes on to outline what makes one vessel preferred above the other. It is about how clean the vessel is. God is sovereign and He can use anything. We have heard of a story where an evangelist went to a place to preach and the person he could find who understood his language to interpret was a drunk. God used the drunk to preach [interpret the words of His servant to the people]. Would we go ahead and say that we would look for a drunk because God used one at a point in time? Absolutely Not!

For us who have been privileged to be saved by Christ’s blood, it is required that we meet certain standards of holiness and purity for us to be more useful in the hands of the Master. If you find that you are becoming of little use in the Master’s hands then check how many dark places are lurking in your life. Clear the impurities and make yourself a nobler vessel.

Prayer
1.Pray that God will open your eyes to see what He wants to use you to do in the kingdom and also to see what you have to purge yourself from.
2.Pray for the courage to confront the secret sins in your life and weed them out in the power of the Holy Spirit.
3.Father, I make myself available as a clean vessel in your house for noble use. May I forever be useful in Your hands.

Declarations
I declare today that I shall not be a vessel of ignoble use. I am a vessel of noble use. All secret sins of my life are on their way out right now. I will be very useful in my Master’s hands henceforth. I declare by divine authority, that as I yield my body as an instrument of righteousness, God will perfect all that concerns me in the name of Jesus.
