Given there are lots of relationships with very limited physical contact I don't see why not.
The bigger question here is; Would you have a more fulfilling relationship with a software-based unit rather than a carbon one? To answer that question we may need to answer, or certainly come to terms with, the reasons why human beings seem to be moving away from what our parents and grandparents considered 'normal' relationships.

Relationships are tough, even for those lucky enough to be in one. How many times have you heard or read "You have to work at it, it is about give and take." Nobody forewarns you that for the majority of people finding the right partner can sometimes be a lifelong challenge with no guarantee of a successful outcome. Many people settle for what they've got, it may not be perfect, but it's better than being on your own.

The market in Real Dolls is booming with even more people including celebrities willing to openly aknowledge ownership of one. The reasons, predominantly men, choose to purchase one is not simply for sexual gratification as some would have you think, investing in excess of $7000 demonstrates a commitment rather than a 30 second "Wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am". It saves a lot of time trying to fathom out what that person likes or dislikes and saves a lot of heartaches too. Ultimately I suspect it is about Damage Limitation I've often had the same thought about people who use the services of prostitutes, it is about 'Getting what you want, when you want and without any complaints.' but is that a meaningful relationship? Sure you could argue "Oh so you want a compliant partner then?" ultimately I suspect the answer is Yes! Yes I do! But is that a bad thing? I don't have an answer as such, what I will say is my version of what my friend Matthew Copperwaite once said to me when we were talking about Gay Marriages: "It doesn't matter what you think about gay marriage, what matters is that everyone has the right to be happy." so in the end, for me, if such a thing as a taylor made Holographic AI became available then why not?
