Tourism is an important component of the Puerto Rican economy, supplying an approximate US $1.8 billion per year. The main benefits of tourism are income creation and generation of jobs. For many regions and countries it is the most important source of welfare. After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, tourism was seen by experts as a way to quickly inject money into the economy.
