High-Power Journey: From 2,300 to 9,000 Hive and What’s Next

Happy to share an update on my high-power progress! This is only the second time I've gone through this, and I initially set a goal to reach 10,000 hive by the end of the year. I planned to achieve this through author and curation rewards and fiat purchases. When the dip happened, I saw it as a good opportunity to buy in bulk, which I did. This purchase brought me to around 8,500 hive, though it's a bit tricky to pinpoint the exact amount. Hivestats seemed to have some issues with my account and only started tracking my activity from around the 21st of this month. I’m not sure what’s going on, as I’ve been active since July 1st.

I don’t know what happened here. It seemed like it tracked for a bit, but after my final fiat purchase and powering up, it messed up my stats and flatlined everything before the 21st.

I estimate that I’ve earned about 500 High Power in total. According to Hive stats, it’s 468 from all three rewards and just under 38 from curation rewards. So, that’s probably a little over $100, mostly from author rewards. I hope to shift more of that towards curation rewards in the future.

And I plan to continue to try to add a bit of cashier in there and just in general keep consistent and keep holding the account and keep creating connections here.

I haven’t been here long, but it seems like overall engagement is pretty low. My best guess is that interest might be lacking. While writing and engaging on Hive can be fun, it seems you need a strong reason, passion, or motivation to stay active. It’s not a place where you can just churn out low-quality content and expect to make a lot of money—at least, not generally.

If you had a lot of money to invest, you might be able to produce low-quality content and still make some money. However, that approach would likely take advantage of the ecosystem rather than contribute positively to it.

Content going forward

I’ll continue posting about fitness, especially once my knee heals. It’s almost there, just a bit of pain every so often, but it’s improving. I’ll also share about my travels. Traveling is probably what I enjoy most. My kids love it, and as a child, I didn’t get to travel much or see much. I’m trying to give my kids opportunities to not only explore more within the States but also to experience other cultures so they’re not sheltered from the differences in the world. I’ll continue to post general life content as well, like my kids' Lego projects. I still can't believe what he is capable of, and he amazes me each day.

Side note: You may have noticed that my account shows a lot of jumps every few days. I don’t collect my High Power multiple times a day or even once a day; I usually do it after a few days. While this might slightly lower my curation rewards, probably only a small amount, I do this because it makes it easier for me to keep all the transactions together when I file taxes in the United States, and in case I’m ever audited by the government.

Based on this, I feel like I can reach my 10,000 goal within the next two months, especially if I come across a bit of extra money, maybe by the end of this month. After that, I'll set my sights on bigger and higher goals, and we’ll see how long it takes me to get there. Now, with this note, my wife has given me a little time to write, but I’d better head outside to play with my kids.
