I would like to take this opportunity and wish you a Warm Welcome to Steemit on behalf of the Community.
This may be the first time you have seen Steemit and have accessed it through one of our promotional flyers similar to the one below, by the QR code at the bottom.
These Flyers are currently being distributed throughout the U.K. by the #promo-uk Team and in Huddersfield I would like to say a massive thanks to @anarcotech who has helped us here.
This simple introduction to Steemit is here to give you a better feel for the Platform.
So what is Steemit?
Steemit is a new Social Network that rewards users for their content, by redefining the way Social Media values the users contribution.
It works by simply allowing the crowd in the Community to reward content created by users by means of voting.
The more votes you get, the more rewards you receive.
What makes Steemit different to the rest?
Unlike other conventional Social Media platforms that extract value from their users for the sole benefit of their Shareholders, Steemit distributes this across the users rewarding them for their content.
In essence Steemit has no Shareholders and each user is effectively a Shareholder.
By simply posting your content the Community decides by means of voting what value your content is to the Community.
How do I create a Steemit account?
It is simple and free to set up an account.
Simply click on the "Sign Up" link at the top of Steemit.com to get started.
What will I need to be verified?
When you sign up you will be asked to verify your email address and phone number.
After you have received verification that your email address and phone number has been verified you will be added to the waiting list.
Once your account has been approved you will receive an email with a notification.
Please note that this could take a while, and in times of huge applications it could take several days.
Will I get a Password with my account?
When you receive notification that your account has been approved you can complete the signup process by following the instructions on the email.
Be sure to SAVE YOUR PASSWORD as there is no way of recovering if lost.
Once you have saved a copy of your Password, click "Create Account" and you are ready to go.
Introducing yourself.
Once you have an account you are ready to start Blogging.
It may feel strange, but the best way to do this is by taking a photograph of yourself, preferably holding up a piece of paper with Steemit and the date on it.
If you like, use the Promotional Flyer you have.
On the bottom right hand corner of the Tags and Topics if you include the promo-uk and promo(town) tags this will for sure generate UpVotes from the #promo-uk Team.

I would like to thank @anarcotech for all his hard work promoting STEEMIT in Huddersfield and putting together this short video which helps explain a little more about STEEMIT.
