Solana launches platform with tools to help game developers! | GameShift

Video games are entering the world of Web3 more frequently than ever. While it is true that in 2021 there was a boom in games based on NFTs such as Axie Infinity, still renowned companies were not fully adopting the potential of blockchain technology.

I have seen many of the projects I liked and participated in fall. Either because they ended up being a scam or simply because nothing lasts forever, and all the more so with the arrival of the bear market. Projects that offered high profitability and an incredible ROI, only some could take advantage of the moment and go with their pockets full; the rest would suffer the losses.

Now I am noticing that many Asian companies are developing games in which there is a large internal economy. It seems to be another way of financing their development and at the same time attracting the attention of an entire mass, in order to maintain the strength of a game that could be on par with the biggest ones, comparable to triple A video games.

In my opinion, integrating a video game into a blockchain must not be easy at all, much less thinking about how much code will have to be written and having a team of developers who know how to use the technology for the development, trial and error, of what would be the next competitor among so many other rival projects. This time I will tell you about the new Solana, which is one of the ideal spaces to lay the foundations for a video game.

The beta of GameShift has been announced by Solana Labs. This platform makes the process of creating games a great experience, because now developers can focus their efforts on creating the game and not so much on the development of the code since the platform has a unified API that takes care of the complexity of the blockchain.

In my opinion, this is a great success, because I have seen the development of a video game in some projects and it is really a process that takes time and in which any unforeseen event can appear at the least opportune moment, for example when about to finish the day.

And it is not easy from any point of view. A blockchain video game has a lot of implementations, being the main ones the transactions that are carried out both internally and externally. By this I mean that, as is common in many games, there is an internal token that is basically for the purchase of items that help advance in the game, while the external ones (cryptos) allow us to buy or sell NFTs.

It should be noted that the complexity of a blockchain can be very large and obviously the challenges to be faced. It is expected that with this platform developers can allocate more resources to the development of games, but as a fundamental option, provide the game with compatibility with web2 in case the players are not familiar with this other technology.

The goal is one and it is the total abstraction of what is required in a blockchain. In this way, developers can use the tools that come with the platform to use functions that allow the listing of digital assets, the generation of an internal market as we pointed out earlier and the possibility of using credit cards that make use of FIAT currency (Pay with MasterCard) when making a transaction.

Ending these lines, I think that video games will seek to implement in them a market that serves as a support for its development, but also be an attraction for players. The creation of Web3 games will be benefited by the reduction of technical knowledge that can complicate their development. We will see what the future holds for us, for my part I would like to experience the good things they are preparing for us to enjoy someday.
