Un prólogo necesario
Dentro de los mil libros digitales que me regalaron está el Padrino y no pude evitar el volver a leerlo, de una manera más pausada y analítica.
En este trabajo les dejaré mis impresiones en torno a uno de los libros más populares de la literatura universal y que marcó de manera particular la industria del cine y la literatura.
El libro
El “Padrino” es una novela escrita por Mario Puzo a finales de los años 60 del pasado siglo y desde su lanzamiento se convirtió en un hito de la literatura universal. Es un texto obligado, para muchos escritores y una joya escrita por un hombre a quien llamaron el escritor de la mafia.
La novela nos brinda un análisis muy profundo y detallado de la llamada mafia siciliana, pero en los Estados Unidos. En el desarrollo del libro podemos ver las atrocidades de estas pandillas y desde el inicio del texto vemos una imagen de Américo Bonasera que nos dice a las claras que no pararemos hasta el final del texto. Pero, quizás, de los elementos que me llamó la atención estén los códigos de honor, el respeto a la familia y la lealtad entre sus miembros. Sin embargo, en la novela también se revela de manera cruda y descarnada las diferentes actividades criminales de la estructura mafiosa y su alcance a todas las esferas de la sociedad.
Como expresé, uno de los elementos que llaman mi atención está relacionado con el trato a la familia y, a través de la novela el autor nos revela las diferentes facetas que pueden caracterizarla como la lealtad, los celos, la traición o las ansias de poder y nos brindan un panorama bien descrito sobre la relación de la familia con el mundo del crimen organizado.
Personajes
Hubo una etapa, en la que me sabía de memoria todos los personajes, por pequeños que fueran sus papeles, y, todavía, me da miedo hablar de Luca Brasi o la ira de Santino Corleone. Aprecié las cualidades de pensamiento detallado de Don Vito Corleone y su capacidad de amar a la familia y a los suyos, más allá del mundo oscuro en el que se desenvuelve y dirige.
De igual manera, aprecié el valor de la amistad del Padrino con sus dos compañeros de juventud (Constanza y Tesio), algo que me marcó de la novela.
Un personaje muy singular y ahijado del padrino es el cantante Johnny Fontana y, muchos dicen que el autor se inspiró en el cantante Frank Sinatra para su creación.
Todo esto y, mucho más, es recogido por el autor mediante una manera muy elocuente de narrar y contarnos cada una de las tramas que conforman esta excelente novela, por lo que, es muy difícil que quien comience a leer el texto quiera dejar de hacerlo hasta llegar a su final.
La novela llevada al cine
Una de las novelas que han llevado al cine que más éxitos ha tenido ha sido el Padrino. No por gusto, esta novela tuvo diez nominaciones al Premio Óscar de la Academia de Cine de los Estados Unidos y ganó tres, entre los que se encuentra el de mejor guion adaptado, lo que demuestra la fidelidad del texto en el filme.

The Godfather is among the books I have read more than four times. There may be several reasons that have prompted me to read the text, but one of them is related to the way in which its author, Mario Puzo, describes the elements of a society marked by several complex, dark, difficult to imagine, but so similar to reality that the book seems a faithful copy of a part of the society in which he lived and developed.
Among the thousand digital books that I was given as a gift is the Godfather and I could not avoid reading it again, in a more leisurely and analytical way.
In this work I will leave you my impressions about one of the most popular books of world literature and that marked in a particular way the film industry and literature.
The book
The “Godfather” is a novel written by Mario Puzo in the late 60's of the last century and since its release became a landmark of world literature. It is a must read for many writers and a jewel written by a man who was called the writer of the Mafia.
The novel gives us a very deep and detailed analysis of the so-called Sicilian Mafia, but in the United States. In the development of the book we can see the atrocities of these gangs and from the beginning of the text we see an image of Americo Bonasera that tells us clearly that we will not stop until the end of the text. But, perhaps, of the elements that caught my attention are the codes of honor, respect for the family and loyalty among its members. However, the novel also reveals in a crude and stark way the different criminal activities of the mafia structure and its reach to all spheres of society.
As I said, one of the elements that catch my attention is related to the treatment of the family and, through the novel, the author reveals the different facets that can characterize it such as loyalty, jealousy, betrayal or the lust for power and gives us a well-described picture of the relationship between the family and the world of organized crime.
Characters
There was a stage, when I knew all the characters by heart, no matter how small their roles were, and, still, I am afraid to talk about Luca Brasi or the wrath of Santino Corleone. I appreciated Don Vito Corleone's detailed thinking qualities and his ability to love family and his own, beyond the dark world in which he navigates and leads.
Likewise, I appreciated the value of the Godfather's friendship with his two youthful companions (Constanza and Tesio), something that marked me from the novel.
A very unique character and godson of the godfather is the singer Johnny Fontana and, many say that the author was inspired by the singer Frank Sinatra for his creation.
All this and much more is collected by the author through a very eloquent way of narrating and telling each of the plots that make up this excellent novel, so it is very difficult that anyone who starts reading the text wants to stop until the end.
The novel made into a movie
One of the most successful novels that has been taken to the movies is The Godfather. Not for nothing, this novel had ten nominations for the Oscar Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures of the United States and won three, including Best Adapted Screenplay, which demonstrates the fidelity of the text in the film.
