Lately I’ve been looking to see some films of the 90, since I am a nostalgic person and I really love the way in that time, they were structured both the stories, dialogues, as well as the scenarios. The film on which I will talk about today, it is one that I saw many times when I was a girl and I remember that it caused me enough impression. Based on a story of the Teacher of Terror Stephen King, no doubt, once you see Misery, you will not see the fanaticism again in the same way.
The plot focuses on the acclaimed writer Paul Sheldon, whose biggest success is the work entitled Misery, a series of novels that relates the life full of misfortunes of a woman who carries the same name from the book. After years of arduous dedication, the writer wants a deserved change of air, so after finishing writing Misery’s last book, he begins to work in a new story. For this, the writer is isolated in a cottage in Colorado, where after finishing writing the new book he saves him in his briefcase and is ready to take it to his editor in New York. With emotion by a new beginning, handle on a snowy road, as the weather is getting worse. Paul, not knowing that he is under a storm, tries to continue managing despite the strong blizzard until he loses control of the vehicle, until he turns. It is a really good movie, keeping you at expectation to see that it will happen. Últimamente he estado buscando de ver algunos filmes de los 90, dado que soy una persona nostálgica y en verdad me encanta el modo en que en ese tiempo, eran estructuradas tanto las historias, diálogos, así como los escenarios. La película sobre la cual les hablaré el día de hoy, se trata de una que vi muchas veces cuando era niña y recuerdo que me causó bastante impresión. Basada en una historia del maestro del terror Stephen King, sin duda, una vez que veas Misery, no volverás a ver el fanatismo de la misma manera.
La trama se centra en el aclamado escritor Paul Sheldon, cuyo éxito más grande es la obra titulada Misery, una serie de novelas que relata la vida llena de infortunios de una mujer que lleva el mismo nombre del libro. Luego de años de ardua dedicación, el escritor desea un merecido cambio de aires, así que luego de terminar de escribir el último libro de Misery, comienza a trabajar en una nueva historia. Para ello, el escritor se aisla en una cabaña en Colorado, donde luego de acabar de escribir el libro nuevo lo guarda en su maletín y se alista para llevárselo a su editora en New York. Con emoción por un nuevo comienzo, maneja por un camino cubierto de nieve, a medida que el clima va empeorando. Paul, desconociendo que se encuentra bajo una tormenta, trata de seguir manejando a pesar de la fuerte ventisca hasta que pierde el control del vehículo, hasta volcarse. Debido al accidenten el hombre acaba malherido y perdiendo el sentido.
Para su buena suerte, antes de morir congelado o producto de sus heridas, Paul es rescatado casi de inmediato por Annie Wilkes, ella se presenta como su admiradora número uno, una enfermera profesional que en su tiempo libre disfruta de leer los libros de Misery. Le comenta a Sheldon que estuvo rondando su cabaña y al darse cuenta de que había salido en su vehículo ante el mal clima, lo había seguido. Paul, agradecido por ser salvado, se deja atender por su admiradora. Aunque algo aturdido, se entera no sólo de los pormenores del accidente sino con la noticia de que las vías están cerradas por la nieve y las líneas telefónicas no funcionan. Incapaz de hacer algo, sigue las ordenes de la mujer, descansando y tomando las medicinas para el dolor que le provee.
Por otro lado, la editora de Paul se extraña al no recibir noticias de su cliente, sobretodo porque el escritor no se ha comunicado con su hija. Llama al sheriff y éste le comenta que tal vez está siendo muy sobreprotectora con el hombre y que el mismo, debe estar en camino. La mujer se tranquiliza y permanece a la espera del escritor. Aunque como era de esperarse, Paul nunca llega.
Pasan los días y el escritor sigue siendo atendido por Annie, esperando el momento para poder llamar a su hija por teléfono y que las vías sean abiertas para ser transferido a un hospital. En una de sus conversaciones, Annie le comenta acerca del maletín, Paul entonces le confiesa que en su interior se encuentra un nuevo proyecto y le permite leerlo, como muestra de su gratitud. Para la mujer, no puede haber un mejor regalo que ese. Completamente emocionada, se lleva el maletín, ansiosa por conocer cuanto antes el nuevo libro del cual espera, quedar tan enamorada como de Misery.
Luego de la lectura de su nuevo escrito Annie, acostumbrada a la narrativa que el hombre utiliza en su obra Misery, se queja de algunos aspectos de su nuevo libro, sobretodo porque se trata de un concepto diferente al que está acostumbrada a leer de su parte. Luego de aquel arranque de euforia, Paul comienza a preocuparse. Más cuando Annie consigue comprar el último libro de Misery, su alegría es inmensa y no duda en ir hasta la habitación de Paul para expresarle todo lo que espera encontrar en ese nuevo volumen. Cada capitulo que va leyendo, la alegría de la mujer y su amor por el escritor va en aumento, completamente maravillada con los sucesos del libro... hasta que termina de leerlo y se entera del fatídico final de Misery. Ese es el punto de quiebre para la fanatica obsesiva, quien no puede soportar el hecho de que su escritor favorito, acabara con su motivo de existencia. Tras despertar a Paul y descargar toda su ira, le confiesa toda la verdad: Nunca ha llamado a su agente, nadie sabe que se encuentra allí y que si algo le sucede a ella, él morirá.
A partir de este punto, el escritor comprende que la mujer no va a dejarlo ir de su casa y empieza a maquinar el modo de escapar, antes de que sea demasiado tarde.
Es una película realmente buena, manteniéndote a la expectativa por ver que sucederá. En mi caso, siendo escritora amateur, tuve la oportunidad de ir a un viaje a la casa de una de mis "admiradoras número uno", sin conocerla en persona, mi hermano bromeó esa vez: "cuidado y te ocurre lo mismo que en la película Misery". En ese momento, su comentario me causó gracia, pero viéndola desde un punto de vista actual, en donde las personas famosas han aumentado y también su fanaticada, el hecho de que un fanático lleve su amor hacía su ídolo a niveles peligrosos, se ha vuelto un tema bastante habitual. Hay muchos casos de cómo ese amor que los fanáticos sienten por un famoso es tan grande, que pierden el sentido de la realidad, siendo que en su mayoría, esas personas utilizan ese objeto de adoración como modo de escape ante la realidad y al ser privados de ello, simplemente enloquecen. Aún no he tenido la oportunidad de leer el libro de Stephen King, pero luego de ver la película, me he animado bastante a conseguirlo. Sin duda, se las recomiendo.
