Play2Earn could be the path to mass adoption
As I read this article by @jfang003 on transferring DEC from Splinterlands to Cubfinance to use it in a Cub-Dec Liquidity Pool I was reminded how many gamers there are both within and outside the Hive Community.

And I began to develop a sense of appreciation for gaming, as a pathway to mass adoption of crypyocurrency. The current explosive growth of Splinterlands as they recently broke the 300,000 accounts number, along with the huge market cap of Axie Inginity, which recently reached the one billion dollar level reminds me of an article I once wrote about a game called Lightnite. Lightnite is a First Person Shooter Battle Royale style game on the Lightening Network, a sidechain of Bitcoin. It allows people to win fractions of Bitcoin called Satoshi playing the game. Lightnite started before Covid-19 when Battle Royale was popular. It has enjoyed modest success, but nothing like the explosive growth of Axie Infinity despite the obvious popularity of Bitcoin.
There’s Millions of Gamers
Video gaming is a popular past time, and much of the social stigma has faded as Covid-19 confined more and more people to there homes. The growing popularity of Play2Earn seems like a natural outgrowth if this increased interest in gaming, and the concurrent need to make money at home, as going to work in manufacturing and service sector jobs has been very adversely affected by Covid-19 Lockdowns. Games like Splinterlands, Axie Infinity and Lightnite are clearly successful Play2Earn games which just happen to be Blockchain Games as in games whose software code is on a blockchains. The players have wallets and there game rewards and in game items can be deposited in their in game wallets. These wallets are cryptocurrency wallets containing both cryptocurrency tokens on the in game items are non-fungible tokens. This revolutionary combination of cryptocurrency, blockchain, non-fungible tokens and earning money playing video games is providing the perfect pathway to mass adoption for cryptocurrency by the masses. Axie-infinity, Splinterlands and Lightnite may go down in history as the games leading the Play2Earn revolution that made cryptocurrency, blockchains and NFTs household words.

If you search YouTube you will find lots of videos on How to Play Axie Infinity and likewise Splinterlands and Lightnite. Axie Inginity is the most popular right now and I love it when I hear the Axie YouTubers say they learned a lot about cryptocurrency, cryptocurrency wallets and NFTs while learning to play the games. I think it’s a literal Perfect Storm opportunity for the world to learn about cryptocurrency and for crypto mass adoption. I have often said that cryptocurrency was hard, and that gamers were a great group to start with as a community to lead the charge for mass adoption, and it looks like I was right, but just ahead of my time.

Axie has a fully player owned economy allowing players to seamlessly sell and trade their game assets for digital currency. To enable this, Axie game assets exist as tokens.
