Tatoo Myths and Rumors

Myths and rumors are something of a norm in urban society today.
Any new trending activity would have its own rumuors and myths that spread like wildfire due to some humans compulsive talkative attitudes 😂
When it's something controversial then, the myths and rumors become even more wild. Now some rumors do have a baseline of truth in it, while there are some that are just incredibly crazy, and it's even crazier that the incredibly crazy one's are the ones that more people tend to believe and spread.

Tattoos are one item in urban society that has its own huge basket of myths and rumors, talks and opinions that plenty people believe while the reality of the matters is simply just common sense.
Today I'll bring and debunk 5 most common myths, stating the ones that are simply bizarre and the ones that could be understandably taken.

5.) Tattoo Needles are Cleaned and Re-used.

This is indeed simply bizarre. Not only is this bizarre, but it's crazily disgusting too.
To be honest, while searching for materials for this post online and asking some people that I know who have done a tattoo some questions, I never expected I'd run into something like this, more less see that it's a pretty rampant myth.

The idea of reusable needles is something that I just can't wrap my head around, a needle isn't something that's reused. This goes for injection needles and tattoo needles.
Once a tattoo job is done, the needle is safely disposed and when a new job or project is presented a new tattoo needle has been placed on the pen.
Let me also add that if you got a tattoo while believing that this was true, you are gross.

4.) Tattoo Colors Fade

This is quite an understandable myth, in actuality it stems from the truth. Tattoo colors did fade perhaps sixty to seventy years ago.
Thankfully times have changed and new more long lasting inks and technique's have been discovered.
So for the phrase "imagine what it's going to look like when you get older" means nothing because it's most likely going to be just how it was when you got it.
Modern tattoo inks would hold their color till your old age and way beyond that.

3.) Tattoo Colors Would Look The Same When Healed

Some who haven't had a tattoo wouldn't know this but the tattoo colors just after its done and a few weeks later is different.
It's all dependent on your skin tone though. To get an accurate-as-can-be picture of how the tattoo color would look when healed, you should just imagine the tattoo color covered in a filter that's the color of your skin tone.

When the tattoo is just drawn and is still an open wound, there is no "skin filter", but when healed, the skin filter is there and the tattoo colored is altered ever so slightly (dependent on your skin).
So when choosing a tattoo color, the color of your skin and its tone should always be on your mind so you can have the exact drawing and color you've imagined.

2.) You Are Tattooed by a Single Needle.

I feel that this rumor must've started with just a mishearing.
Single needle tattoos are possible, but to be honest they are quite rare.
The amount of needles used depends on the job that's about to be done, but in general, most fine lined tattooes are done with three or more needles wrapped together.

images (27).jpeg
The size of these needles also differ, like how an artist has different sizes of brush for different aspects of a work. For fine lines and details a small size of needle(s) are used while for filling in and outlines bigger sizes are used.
In summary, single needle tattoos are done incredibly rarely, maybe 1 in every 1000 tattoo jobs.

1.) All Tattoos Hurt Really Bad

I feel this has to be the most heard tattoo myth and rumors ever in all Tattoo myths and rumors.
It is understandable too, the thought of needles repeatedly pushed into your skin in quick success to inject ink and draw an image does sound painful.

images (33).jpeg
Although there are some things that are incorrect, first is the idea of just how deep the needle goes, it isn't like an injection that the needle pierces your skin and is in search of a vein or muscle, the tattoo needle just goes a few layers into your skin, minimal pain, minimal effort, no blood touched or shed.

Can tattoos be painful? Yes. Are they usually painful? No.
Sure there are some spots that aren't the most comfortable; ribs, stomach, side but even those tattoo sessions are very tolerable for tattoos under 2 hours.
Most times, the pain is individual based though, as people tolerance for pain highly differ, and even for that most tattoo shops have pain numbing creams for such special occasions.

After the tattoo, you should only experience mild pain if something rubs against the newly tattooed area for about a week. After that you're as good as new.
The full tattooing process is as painless as ever when done properly ✨

These are just a few of the myths concerning tattoos.
There are loads more... Which myth have you heard?
