I often plan to divert a small stream from the events river that makes up the life of our family, and bring this stream here, to the Home edders community. But every time I put it off for later - and then my impulses weaken, the freshness of perception goes away, and new events obscure and crowd out the old ones ... the same old story. I pushed myself to do an exception today.

Но всякий раз откладываю на потом - а потом импульсы ослабевают, свежесть восприятия уходит, и новые события заслоняют и вытесняют старые... все та же самая старая история.
Because I have a very beautiful and pleasurable stuff - it is a pure pleasure to watch these photos. But first, a little notice to the public. Few days ago I visited a historical festival and brought back about a thousand (!) photographs. I need to sort it all out, edit the pictures, tell the stories... it will take a lot of time to publish it all. Therefore, let me start with "the creamiest ones" which, of course, were the kidz pics :)
Потому что у меня очень красивый и приятный материал - одно удовольствие разглядывать эти фоточки. Но сначала, небольшое предуведомление. Несколько дней назад я посетил исторический фестиваль, и принес назад около тысячи фотографий. Мне нужно рассортировать все это, отредактировать картинки, рассказать истории... опубликовать всё это займет кучу времени.
The festival housed a lot of interesting workshops and visual spectacles; personally for me, the most interesting one was the 17th century calligraphy master class. It was conducted by the "Tempera" studio (Peterhof, Russia). Here is its page in social network: https://vk.com/studiatempera

Later, I found out that I was not the only such fan - 3000 people (!) visited the calligraphy tent, and in fact there was always a queue near the entrance (since the number of seats was not stretchable ...)
Позднее я выяснил, что я был не единственный такой фэн - 3000 человек (!) посетили палатку каллиграфии, и фактически возле входа всегда наблюдалась очередь (так как число посадочных мест всё же было не резиновое...)
...and later at the festival location I very often encountered folks proudly and carefully holding these precious paper shits with samples of their calligraphic creativity. NB. No, it was impossible to immediately put them away to a backpack - the masters gave clear instructions that the ink should be allowed to dry for at least 10 minutes.
...и на территории фестиваля мне очень часто встречались люди, гордо и бережно сжимающие в руках драгоценные бумажки с образцами своего каллиграфического творчества. NB. Нет, сразу убрать их поглубже в свой рюкзак было нельзя - мастера давали четкие инструкции, что чернилам надо дать высохнуть минимум 10 минут.
So, everyone was offered real goose feathers (!), napkins for wiping hands, and, most importantly, handwriting samples and templates. As you can see in the photo above, the faint lettering on the pieces of paper is actually printer printouts, made specifically to serve as a template for tracing by an inexperienced hand. After training (or without it, just looking at the samples lying on the table), a person could try to make the inscription on his own, on a blank piece of paper.
Итак, всем желающим предлагали настоящие гусиные перья (!), салфетки для вытирания рук, и главное - образцы почерка и шаблоны. В видите их на фото выше, бледные надписи на листочках бумаги это на самом деле принтерные распечатки, сделанные такими специально чтобы послужить шаблоном для обводки неопытной рукой. После тренировки (или без нее, просто глядя на лежашие на столе образцы), человек мог попробовать сделать надпись самостоятельно, на чистом листке.
Let me translate the inscriptions for those who do not read Russian: "I love you St. Petersburg", "Window to Europe" (the name of the festival), "I love you, Peter's creation", "All fleets sail to visit us", etc. I will also add that this is not the modern handwriting that is known to people, but a kind of historical handwriting - a type of cursive "semi-ustav", which has become widespread since the 16th century. Despite its name, this cursive was not that fast :)))
Я переведу надписи для тех кто не читает по-русски: "Люблю тебя Санкт-Петербург", "Окно в Европу" (название фестиваля), "Я люблю тебя, творение Петра", "Все флоты плывите в гости к нам", etc. Добавлю также, что это не тот современный почерк, который известен людям, а разновидность исторического почерка - скоропись типа "полуустав", к-я получила распространение с 16 века. Несмотря на своё название, скоропись не была такой уж быстрой :)))
What did the children ask and worry about the most? Attention, funny spoilers! Most importantly, most were worried - does the natural ink rub off the skin of the hands? (yes, quite, if you do it quickly!) The second main question was: "Is this really, really, without cheating, natural goose feathers? WOW!!!!" And the third most frequent question-complaint was "Your pen is broken!" (it was said about the forked tip of the pen and the ink channel :))) And yet, everyone - both children and adults - was terribly surprised at the unfamiliar letter "U" (referring to Cyrillic "U", which is not the same as Latin, it is rather 'Y' by its shapes). Yes, this letter is really the farthest away from its predecessor of the 16th century.
О чем больше всего спрашивали и беспокоились дети? Внимание, смешные спойлеры! Самое главное, большинство беспокоились - оттираются ли натуральные чернила с кожи рук? (да, вполне, если делать это быстро!) Вторым главным вопросом было: "Это действительно, по-настоящему, без обмана, натуральные гусиные перья? ВАУ!!!!" А третьим по частоте вопросом-жалобой было "Ваше перо сломано!" (это говорилось про раздвоенный кончик пера и проводящий чернила канал :))) А еще, все - и дети, и взрослые - ужасно удивлялись незнакомой букве "У". Да, эта буква действительно дальше всех убежала от своего предшественника 16 века!
The last but not the least. The profession of a scribe is completely irrelevant for a contemporary person. What is the importance of calligraphy then, isnt that just a bit silly time-killing? No, quite on the contrary! It is believed that calligraphy is good for your psychology and thinking, it perfectly develops fine motor skills (that's why calligraphy is useful at any age, not only for children, but also for adults!). I believe that in our almost combat conditions, when children are rapidly losing their reading and writing skills, having barely learned this business ... calligraphy can be an excellent counterbalance to the general decline of culture, including epistolary culture. And as for historical calligraphy, it is a touch to the history of the people, to the history of your country, to its culture, and because of this, it is already beautiful in itself.
Последнее, но не в последнюю очередь. Профессия писаря для современного человека совершенно не актуальна. В чем важность калиграфии, не пустая ли эта забава? Нет, наоборот! Считается, что каллиграфия полезна вашей психологии и мышлению, прекрасно развивает мелкую моторику (поэтому каллиграфия полезна в любом возрасте, не только детям, но и взрослым!). Я считаю, что в наших почти боевых условиях,-- когда дети стремительно теряют навыки чтения и писания, едва научившись этому делу ..... каллиграфия может быть отличным противовесом всеобщему упадку культуры, в том числе и эпистолярной культуры. А что касается исторической каллиграфии - это прикосновение к истории народа, к истории твоей страны, к ее культуре, и в силу этого уже прекрасно само по себе.
