A Journey Through Digital Time

Gone were the days when we didn’t even have smart phones. If I remember correctly, the phones that were being used while I was growing were mostly key pad phones up until blackberry phones became a thing. I remember how I used to play that snake game on my grandma’s phone cos she didn’t know her way around the phone. If she asks me to look for a particular persons number for her because she wanted to make a call, I would use 30 minutes to play games all in the name of looking for the number.😂

I would say that one electronic gadget I had the most access to while growing up was the desktop computer. My dad had this huge Internet cafe filled with so many computers. It was a really huge place and it was in a very busy community. So, anytime I go there with him to check on the workers there, I would use the opportunity to go online and look for God knows what. But aside this, we had our own computers at home. My sister and I didn’t really know how to use them so we kept them in our elder brothers room. He was way older than us and so it just made sense that we follow his lead.

You won’t believe that this guy turned his room into a Game Center when our parents are away. He would bring his friends to his room to play mortal combat all day and that’s how I also learnt how to play that game. We would play all day until we couldn’t play anymore. It was fun. I didn’t even care about mavis beacon and all of those games until when I was at school. You know how kids are, once I see all my mates at the computer lab learning typing with mavis beacon I would also be influenced into playing it but when I’m at home, it’s gangster mode.😂

I didn’t even care much about phones those days because I had the latest games on my computer back at home. It was years later that different phones started emerging and we all started to get crazy about them. These days, most people have even moved away from using these desktop computers to using laptops which are easy to carry around. Now that I am older, I don’t even have time for games. Most of the things I do are on my phone. I don’t use my pc that much unless when I’m at work or at home working or watching a show. Aside that, I’d say I make use of my phone the most.

When I think back to those days, the most vivid memories I have are those when my sibling and I were seated all day playing games. It was so fun and I would say it made my childhood very fun, all thanks to my dad for those computers.😅🤝
