Nuclear Weapons and Radioactive Waste

With technological advancement, amazing inventions are made by scientists on a daily basis. Scientists are curious beings who are always ready to explore and understand everything about the world we dwell in. With the different fields, they make discoveries that are incredible.

However, just as we have advantages and disadvantages to everything, science is not an exception. There are inventions that science has taken too far. One instance is the invention of nuclear weapons. We are aware of how powerful bombs can destroy anywhere they explode.

Apart from how powerful a weapon they are, the question that lies beneath is what happens after they have been used. After they explode, what happens to the radioactive waste? The radioactive waste from these nuclear weapons is very dangerous to human health and the environment. While the invention of nuclear weapons shows how powerful and great thinkers scientists can be, the negative effects raise great ethical concerns about the deadly result of their use.

During wars, these bombs are used as defensive measures and are dropped on different locations to explode. Once these bombs explode, they kill souls and render places affected useless for many years. Such a place cannot be used for cultivation of any kind and the health of people living there or near such a place is at risk.

Then, a field where science is needed but not felt is still in the areas of proper disposal of radioactive waste from these nuclear weapons. This is a field where scientific effort is needed but no attention is given in that regard. Everybody just forgets about these wastes and moves on, not minding how detrimental such can be to health. Finding a way where these wastes can be recycled and properly disposed of would help make our environment a safer place. It's expected and important for scientists to continue research in finding safer and proper radioactive waste management. With this, the dangers that come from these wastes can be reduced.

The big problem comes when these weapons are used due to wars and after getting rid of the waste becomes difficult. That waste poses a great problem to those dwelling near the environment where they exploded. Due to insecurities, many countries make use of these bombs to defend their country against their opponents.

Forgetting that where these bombs are dropped are places inhabited by humans. Imagine when they explode in people's farmlands, destroy their belongings, and affect their health. Nothing can grow effectively in any land that has been destroyed by bomb explosion. The invention of nuclear weapons is one instance I can say science went too far.

It's one invention I will say the disadvantage weighs more than the advantage. It's more like what would happen to lives and humans’ health were not considered when this invention was made. While seeking safety at the expense of a fellow man's life and well-being all in the name of wars and survival. Providing a solution to proper radioactive waste disposal should be an area scientists find a way out instead of overlooking these affected areas after war.
