A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can be remotely controlled or fly autonomously. Drones are equipped with various sensors, cameras, and other technology to capture images, record videos, and perform a wide range of tasks. They are used in various fields such as aerial photography, videography, surveillance, search and rescue operations, agriculture, and even recreational activities.

Drones come in different sizes and types, ranging from small consumer drones to larger professional-grade models. They can be used for personal or commercial purposes depending on their capabilities and features. Some drones are designed for racing, while others are built for capturing high-quality aerial footage. The best drone for you depends on your specific needs and budget.

Please note that drone regulations and restrictions may vary depending on your location. It’s important to familiarize yourself with the local laws and guidelines before operating a drone.

Rise of the Machines

Some fear the rise of artificial intelligence and machines. There are many who paint a dystopian picture of the future. As technology advances, it can make those with nefarious intentions even more dangerous.

Governments have long used technology against the populations of the world. With more powerful technology, the fear is this will only accelerate. Drone and robotics are what can lead many to conclude we are heading towards The Terminator scenario.

Computers are becoming an increasing part of our lives. This is coupled with advancements in communications, making devices such as drones possible.

While there are many benefits for the general public, military use is also something people fear. What happens when drones are equipped with high powered and accurate lasers? Entire wars might be fought with these devices attacking civilian populations.

Business Applications

Drones can provide commercial benefit.

Businesses are starting to adopt them. One of the main use cases is to survey areas in less time and that were difficult to access. We see drones used in rescue operations. Airlines use them to scan the planes for damage. Surveyors can turn to drones to map out specific areas.

Amazon along with corporations such as UPS have experimented with drones for delivery operations. The medical industry already does this when life saving medication is required. It also has used them to transport organs.

When looking at the rise in digital shopping, this led to an associated explosion in delivery. This is expanding as many grocery chains in developed nations start to offer this service.

Drones are potentially a way to deliver items to people without the use of people. It also can deliver to a specific location such as the back porch.

It is likely that drones follow a curve similar to computers. Businesses embraced computers slowly, based upon need and cost. As the capabilities expanded, with prices coming down, more entities were interested in utilizing them.

Drones could follow a similar cost curve, stimulating even greater adoption.
